William Nathaniel Banks (1924-2019) was a four-time Colony Fellow, a writer, and was the longest standing member of MacDowell’s Board of Directors, having served since 1966. He served as MacDowell’s Vice President from 1974-1982 and was a Vice Chairman since 1987. He was also an art historian, author, and lecturer, specializing in historic communities and architecture, whose work appeared regularly in the magazine Antiques. He earned degrees at Dartmouth and Yale and divided his time between his family’s historical properties in Newnan, GA, and Temple, NH where he served as caretaker and resident scholar.
