Tia Blassingame is a book artist and printmaker exploring the intersection of race, history, and perception. Utilizing printmaking and book arts techniques, she renders racially-charged images and histories for a nuanced discussion on issues of race and racism. Blassingame teaches at Scripps College and is the director of the Scripps College Press. She holds a B.A. from Princeton University, M.A. from Corcoran College of Art + Design, and M.F.A. in printmaking from Rhode Island School of Design.
Blassingame has taught book arts and printmaking at Rhode Island School of Design and California College of the Arts. She has been an artist-in-residence at MacDowell, Yaddo, and the Santa Fe Art Institute as well as a visiting artist with the Nature Conservancy and Illinois State University. Her artist’s books can be found in library and museum collections around the world including Library of Congress, State Library of Queensland, and Tate Britain.
