Ta-Nehisi Coates is a national correspondent for The Atlantic, where he writes about cultural, social, and political issues. He worked on his first novel, The Walkers, the story of a Civil War era Virginia family, while at The MacDowell Colony. He is the author of the books Between the World and Me and We Were Eight Years in Power. His debut memoir, The Beautiful Struggle, was published in 2008.
