Sukari Jones is a playwright, screenwriter, and lyricist exploring the intersection of race and power in the United States, with a particular focus on the Black experience in America and complicated mother-daughter relationships through a magical/sci-fi lens. B.A.Vassar College, M.F.A.NYU Tisch. Memberships: Advanced BMI Musical Theater Workshop, The Public Theater Emerging Writers Group. Sukari’s work has been commissioned/produced at Goodspeed Opera House, Lincoln Center, The Lark Play Development Center, The Village Theatre, Barrington Stage Company, The Atlantic Theater Company, Joe’s Pub and The Public Theater. Fellowships: W.K. Rose (Vassar College), MacDowell. In residence, she completed the first draft of her new musical 4Revenge Tales: for my mother, grandmother, baby sister an' me, edited a final draft of The River Is Me, generated the first draft of her new play [zombie play], began the first draft of her new play I. Hate. Everyone, began research for her new musical Power and began drafting two TV pilots. Sukari's musical theater work The River Is Me was showcased in the National Alliance of Musical Theatre conference in October 2018 (NYC), and the first incarnation of her musical Power was schedueld for presentation by The Atlantic Theater Company (NYC) in June 2019.

Wood

Sukari Jones worked in the Wood studio.

Wood Studio, given to the residency program by Mrs. Frederick Trevor Hill, was completed in 1913 in memory of Mrs. Hill’s mother, Helen Ogden Wood. Like Schelling Studio, the building is sided with large, overlapping pieces of hemlock bark.
