Sofi Thanhauser is a writer, artist, and musician, based in Brooklyn. She is the author of Worn: A People’s History of Clothing (Pantheon, January 2022), which was a New Yorker Best Book of 2022 and was featured as Harper's Buzziest Book of 2022. She has received fellowships from the Fulbright, MacDowell, Ucross, and the Millay Colony, among others. Her work has appeared in Vox, The Guardian, Observer Magazine, Dame, and LitHub.
At MacDowell in 2017, Thanhauser completed a draft of her essay collection, Notes Towards the Definition of Clothing. In 2023, she completed a series of text/image works with ink on bristol board and completed a first draft of a new fiction project.
