Philippe Bodin is a composer who has studied and taught in the U.S., having resided there for 20 years. A Guggenheim Fellow and an American Academy of Arts and Letters award winner, he has garnered accolades in many international competitions (U.S., UK, Italy, Poland, Russia, Finland, the Netherlands).

While at MacDowell, he started and completed an eleven-and-half-minute composition for large choir. This piece is a commission from the French National Radio Choir (Chœur de Radio-France) and will be premiered some time in 2020.

MacDowell

Philippe Bodin worked in the MacDowell studio.

Built in 1912, Pine Studio was renamed MacDowell Studio in 1943 in recognition of support from a group of Edward MacDowell’s music students. It was built as a composers’ studio and the stuccoed walls were intended to be soundproof.
