Nusrat Hossain is currently revising her first novel about a Muslim American family, highlighting the experiences of a young hijabi woman and her mother.

While at MacDowell, she continued developing a collection of short stories with primarily female Muslim-Bangladeshi-American characters at different stages of life. Both projects explore the complexities of hyper-hyphenated identities and the question of how to harmonize cultural and self-expectations.
