Iraqi novelist Mahmoud Saeed has written more than 20 novels and numerous short stories and won several literary awards. Several of his novels and stories have been translated into foreign languages, including three in English. At MacDowell, he worked on a historical novel involving the siege of Mosul by the armies of Nader Shah in 1743. His stories have appeared in more than 200 literatures collections, and his writings have won five Arabic language literature awards.
