Michael Chabon is a novelist, essayist, and screenwriter whose works include the Pulitzer Prize–winning novel The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, Telegraph Avenue, and the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning The Yiddish Policemen's Union (all of them written in part at MacDowell). He is a member of the Academy of Arts and Letters, and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of MacDowell from December 2010 until January of 2020, when visual artist Nell Painter took the gavel.

Other books include his debut novel The Mysteries of Pittsburgh (1988), Wonder Boys (1995), Summerland (YA 2002), Manhood for Amateurs (essays 2009), Moonglow (2017, worked on at MacDowell in 2015), and Pops: Fatherhood in Pieces (essays 2018). In 2019, Chabon joined the writing and producing team for the series “Star Trek: Picard” and became its showrunner.

In residence in 2017, he worked on a new project. At MacDowell in 2022 with collaborator Ayelet Waldman, his wife, Chabon worked on a television adaptation of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. They are also co-creators and executive producers of Netflix's award-winning series, “Unbelievable.”
