Manfred Kirchheimer is a documentary film maker and professor of film at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He was born in Saarbrücken, Germany but his family moved to New York in 1936 to escape the Nazi regime. After receiving a B.A. from the City College of New York in 1952, Kirchheimer worked primarily as a film editor but also began making his own films. He edited on films for ABC, CBS, NBC, and National Educational Television. The subjects of his films range from biographical to cultural, but were often focused on urban life. He has been teaching since 2014.
