Lola Opatayo holds a bachelor's degree in literature from the Obafemi Awolowo University, and a master’s in communication and language arts from the University of Ibadan. Her stories have appeared in Obsidian and Hot Metal Bridge. Her work is centered around female reproductive health, mental issues, and cultural influence. In addition to being a MacDowell Colony Fellow, she is a recipient of the Iceland Writers Alumni Award. During her residency at MacDwowell, she worked on her collection of short stories. Employing the use of magical realism, she establishes the intersections between female reproductive health, mental health issues, and cultural influence in African women. She also conceived of an idea to preserve the propagation of Nigerian folktales.
