Combining installation, video and sculpture, Lili Chin’s practice focuses on nature and architecture to explore rituals in time, bridging contemporary and ancient ideas that investigate themes of memory, duration, and spirituality. Selected international exhibition venues that have featured her installations, sculpture, and artwork include the He Xiangning Art Museum in Shenzhen, Cina; Collar Works in Troy, NY; The Abrazo Interno Gallery in New York; STPI Print Center in Singapore; and various other venues in New York City, Beijing, Shanghai, Mexico City, Ecuador, and the Orkney Islands. Her films have screened at various international venues, including Anthology Film Archives, 601 Art Space, Microscope Gallery, Millenium, Oxford Digital Festival, Edinburgh Film Festival, NY Underground Film Festival, and more.

While at MacDowell she developed Istoria’s Garden, an immersive video and clay installation that explores the relationship between man, nature, and memory through the lens of a global garden. Inspired by disparate landscapes from Okinawa to Australia and Wyoming, Istoria’s Garden combines super 8 footage with organic shaped clay forms to blur perceptual distinctions between surface, light, and content.

Aside from MacDowell, she has attended numerous residencies including the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, the Swatch Art Peace Hotel, The Studios at Mass MoCA, Hospitalfield in Scotland, and Akiyoshidai International Art Village in Japan. Forthcoming residencies include Franconia Sculpture Park in Minnesota and the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology in Lincoln, OR. Her work will be featured as part of the viewing program at the Drawing Center in 2021.
