Choreographer, movement artist Leah Stein is the artistic director of Leah Stein Dance Company and creates performance works that invoke and illuminate the living histories of built and natural spaces. She has performed and taught in the US, Canada, Indonesia, Poland, Romania, Japan and Scotland. LSDC has engaged in multiple collaborative site-specific performance projects with both professional and community participants. Among the major works are collaborations with composers Pauline Oliveros (Urban Echo), David Lang (battle hymns), and Byron Au Yong (Turbine) with the Mendelssohn Club Chorus under the direction of Alan Harler, and Diane Monroe (Bellows Falls and Adjacent Spaces).
While at MacDowell, she completed research on a new solo performance work “Secondary Succession” as part of a larger work “Standing in the Wake,” first performed in Philadelphia in 2017. The work will premiere in entirety in 2020. Stein also began work on “Through Her/Our Eyes,” a work for 12 performers that will premiere at Woodmere Art Museum, Philadelphia, Fall 2019.
