George Brant’s plays include Grounded, Marie and Rosetta, Into the Breeches!, The Prince of Providence, Tender Age, Elephant’s Graveyard, Grizzly Mama, The Mourners’ Bench, Good on Paper, Any Other Name, Salvage, Three Voyages of the Lobotomobile, Night of the Mime, One Hand Clapping, and Dark Room.

His scripts have been produced internationally by the Public Theater, the Atlantic Theater Company, Cleveland Play House, Trinity Repertory Company, the Studio Theatre, the Alley Theatre, Milwaukee Repertory, Westport Country Playhouse, London’s Gate Theatre, Page 73, and Edinburgh’s Traverse Theatre, among others.

Brant has received a Lucille Lortel Award, an Edgerton Foundation New Play Award, a Kennedy Center National Playwriting Award, the Smith Prize, a Scotsman Fringe First Award, a Creative Workforce Fellowship, an Off-West End Theatre Award, an NNPN Rolling World Premiere, three OAC Individual Excellence Awards, the Teatro Netto Festival Grand Prize and the Keene Prize for Literature.

Brant was awarded fellowships from the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, MacDowell, the McCarter Theatre Center, New Harmony Project, Blue Mountain Center, Hermitage Artist’s Retreat, the Djerassi Resident Artist’s Program, and the Michener Center for Writers, and been commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera, Trinity Repertory Company, Theatre 4, and Dobama Theatre. He is published by Samuel French, Oberon Books, S. Fischer Verlag and Smith & Kraus.

Wood

George Brant worked in the Wood studio.

Wood Studio, given to the residency program by Mrs. Frederick Trevor Hill, was completed in 1913 in memory of Mrs. Hill’s mother, Helen Ogden Wood. Like Schelling Studio, the building is sided with large, overlapping pieces of hemlock bark.
