Dawn Kim is an artist based in Brooklyn. She is interested in media generated by the faithful, by people participating in an institution: the church, the government, the economy. Appropriating image and video, she erases the contextual elements in order to create a new, “quieter” landscape where one can contemplate the depths and limits of our visual fluency. Her last book, CREATION.IMG, was shortlisted for the Paris Photo-Aperture Foundation Photobook Award. In residence, she experimented with various forms of photographic printing in the dark room. She will be attending Yale for her M.F.A. in photography beginning in 2018.

Dawn Kim worked in the Nef studio.

Nef Studio, the first entirely new studio built after 1937, was donated by esteemed photographer, explorer, author, and MacDowell Fellow Evelyn Steffanson Nef in 1992. Endowed funds for the studio’s maintenance in perpetuity and an annual Fellowship for photographers were given in addition to funds for construction.
