David France is the author of four books, the most recent being How to Survive a Plague, a New York Times Notable Book and recipient of the 2017 Baillie Gifford Prize. Recognition for his documentary film work includes a Peabody, a GLAAD Award, and numerous Emmy nominations.
While at MacDowell, he worked on a book about LGBTQ refugee experiences, policies, and practice and finished a new documentary film. The film also received support from the Ford Foundation, The Bertha Foundation, and the Sundance Documentary Fund.

Studio was funded by the New York Carol Club of Sorosis. The small,
masonry studio was designed by F. Winsor, Jr., the architect who also
designed Savidge Library (1926) and Mixter Studio (1927).
