Danielle Spencer is the author of Metagnosis: Revelatory Narratives of Health and Identity (Oxford University Press, October 2021) which was completed on the Mansfield Studio back porch in the summer of 2019 with the help of deer, birds, trees, and of course picnic lunch baskets. She is also a co-author of the Perkins-Prize-winning The Principles and Practice of Narrative Medicine (OUP, 2017), and her scholarly and creative work appears in diverse outlets, from The Lancet to Ploughshares. Formerly artist/musician David Byrne’s Art Director, Spencer is currently academic director of the Columbia University Narrative Medicine Program.

Mansfield

Danielle Spencer worked in the Mansfield studio.

The Helen Coolidge Mansfield Studio was donated by graduates of the Mansfield War Service Classes for Reconstruction Aides. Helen Mansfield helped found the New York MacDowell Club.
