Cecil Howell is a designer and artist, whose work is an exploration of the landscape. In 2019, she created her own research and design studio: Object + Field, a multi-disciplinary practice that includes landscape architecture, conceptual cartography, and graphic design.

A recent recipient of a number of residencies in federally managed wilderness, during her MacDowell residency, she worked on a series of prints and drawings exploring three wilderness regions in North America. Pieces of the work were previously included in the group show "Translating Place" at the University of Montana.

Putnam

Cecil Howell worked in the Putnam studio.

The Graphics Studio (as it was originally named) was converted to its present use in 1972–1974 through a grant from the Putnam Foundation, and originally served the property as both a power house and pump house.
