Anne Fadiman is the author of two books of essays, At Large and At Small and Ex Libris, as well as The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, the account of a cross-cultural conflict between a family of Hmong refugees and their daughter’s physicians. Her most recent book, The Wine Lover’s Daughter: A Memoir (much of which was written at MacDowell) was an NPR and Library Journal Best Book of the Year. Fadiman’s work has won a National Book Critics Circle Award, a Los Angeles Times Book Prize, a Boston Book Review Prize, a Salon Book Award, and two National Magazine Awards. The former editor of The American Scholar, she is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Francis Writer-in-Residence at Yale.
