Andrew Sean Greer is the author of seven works of fiction, including: The Story of a Marriage, a best seller; The Confessions of Max Tivoli, translated into 25 languages, winner of the California Book Award Gold Medal in Fiction, the Northern California Book Award, and the New York Public Library Young Lions Award; Less, which won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for fiction; and his latest, Less Is Lost, a 2022 NYT bestseller. He is also the recipient of a NEA grant and a Guggenheim Fellowship. He lives between San Francisco and Milan.
During his MacDowell residencies, Greer has worked on The Confessions of Max Tivoli, The Story of a Marriage, The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells, Less Is Lost, and a collaboration with artist, Paul Madonna.
During his 2024 Fellowship, Greer completed the first half of a new novel, set in Italy. Arriving with hundreds of unconnected parts, he found a narrative structure, a point of view and, most importantly, a sense of humor.
