David Adjmi,

New York, NY, worked on a first draft of a new piece entitled Bonifacius (or The Do Gooders), a drama set in Puritan New England. He also worked on a rewrite of his play The Evildoers, which will receive a world premiere at Yale Rep next season. His play Stunning will debut at the Wooly Mammoth Theater in 2008.

Michael Dennis Browne,

Minneapolis, MN, worked on the libretto for the church opera The Shoemaker. He also worked on new poems for a seventh collection and the beginning of a memoir, Build Me a Boat. His most recent collaboration with Stephen Paulus, To Be Certain of the Dawn, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in music.

Tom Cole,

New York, NY, worked on Pre-Paradise, a play to be performed at Participant Inc. in 2007. He is a recent recipient of a LEF Foundation Grant, and his poetry was included in the anthology This New Breed: Gents, Bad Boys and Barbarians 2.

Jorge Ignacio Cortiñas,  

New York, NY, began work on a new play. Two of his plays will be presented in New York in 2007: Blind Mouth Singing at The National Asian American Theater Company and Bird in the Hand at INTAR.

Andrew Gerle,

New York, NY, worked on the score and libretto to Gloryana, a piece about the legacy of conflict in the post-Civil War South. His musical adaptation of Frank Capra’s Meet John Doe will premiere at the Ford’s Theatre in 2007.

Christina Ham,

Minneapolis, MN, completed a draft of her full-length play A Wive’s Tale and developed a draft of a new play Enfants Mauvais Souvenirs (The Children of Bad Memories). Her play County Line was recently published by Playscripts.

Andrea Hart,

Berkeley, CA completed a working draft of a new play and wrote a first draft of another play. She also made three quilts.

Karen Hartman,

Brooklyn, NY, completed a first draft of her play Goliath, commissioned by McCarter Theater and the Foundation for Jewish Culture. Her other plays have been performed regionally and in New York.

John Jesurun,

New York, NY, completed the second half of his play Septet and began work on a new play, Liz 1. He was an artist-in- residence at the New School in New York in 2006. His play Philoketes was staged at the Kaaitheater in 2006.

Callie Kimball,

Washington, DC, wrote a full–length play Dirty Heart; put the finishing touches on her play Jupiter Zoom; and wrote two short plays, Snort and Mandala Girl. She also began work on a play cycle based on the lives of her ancestors who settled Maine in the 1600s.

Andrea Kleine,

New York, NY, completed work on The Separation, a collaboration with composer Bobby Previte that will premiere at the Walker Art Center in 2007. She recently completed her first novel, Calf.

James Lapine,

New York, NY, completed both a long-form and short-form screenplay and continued researching a future production of King Lear that he will direct.

Melanie Marnich,

Brooklyn, NY, worked on her new play, A Sleeping Country, which will receive a public reading at Primary Stages in New York in 2007. Her play Cradle of Man premiered at Florida Stage in 2006; her play Tallgrass Gothic was recently recognized as an “Outstanding New Script of 2006” by the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Honor Molloy,

Brooklyn, NY, developed 25 minutes of a new music/performance work entitled Murphy with composer Corey Dargel and director Yvan Greenberg. She also wrote a chapter for Oh Dark Hundred, a novel in progress.

Charles Morey,

Salt Lake City, UT, completed a draft of the play The Ladies Man, an adaptation of Tailleur Pour Dames by Georges Feyeau to be produced by the Pioneer Theatre Company in Salt Lake City. He also completed a draft of a new play about Byron, Shelley, and Mary Shelley.

Rich Orloff,

New York, NY, explored a trio of new play ideas and finished revisions on his comedies Skin Deep and Come Again. His play Foreign Affairs was published by Playscripts in 2006. His play Off the Map was read as part of the 2006 MacDowell Downtown series.

Sally Oswald,

Brooklyn, NY, worked on a slide-show play, The Painful Adventures, and began a new play, When You Are Ready. She is currently working on text for Dan Hurlin’s new show. Her libretto for Quotes for the London Symphony Chorus will premiere in 2007–08.

Julia Pearlstein,

New York, NY, completed a draft of Half Past, a multimedia play with songs, and began work on a new play, Every Rat Bastard (Tutti Stronzi), set in 1630 Venice. A workshop of her comedy PLINKO, or, The Goddess of Static Cling, was presented at Theater for the New City in 2007.

Brian Quirk,

New York, NY, finished work on his play Marrow. He also researched and wrote a first draft of a new play, Summerland, based on the Fox sisters and spiritualism. In addition, he continued work on his play Jack, which combines Jack the Ripper, the work of Walter Sickert, and Punch and Judy.

Daniel Reitz,

New York, NY, rewrote a play and worked on a feature film screenplay for forthcoming production.

Mac Wellman,

Brooklyn, NY, worked on a play, Left Glove; a novel, Linda Perdido; a ten-minute play, Before the Before and Before That; and a poem, Awe. His opera with David Lang was produced by The Ridge Theater at Montclair State in 2006.

John Yearley,

Brooklyn, NY, finished his adaptation of the Tennessee Williams poem “Night Vision.” He also continued work on his screenplay Hacker. His play Tiberias was recently performed in New York, and a monologue from his play All in Little Pieces was included in The Best Women’s Stage Monologues of 2006.
