Mac ’n’ Cheese

Mac ’n’ Cheese is a subscription series of salon-style events that pairs readings, talks, and musical performances with specially selected wine and cheeses. This small, select program gives subscribers intimate access to the creative process and introduces them to some of the leading artists at work today. These exchanges echo the spirit of the informal studio presentations that artists-in-residence share at the Colony. Due to the popularity of the New York City series, Mac ’n’ Cheese has expanded to the Boston area.

NYC
The 2011 Mac ’n’ Cheese season in New York kicked off on April 27th with architect Aki Ishida and writer Anthony Schneider. On April 9th, Ishida also led a special tour of the interactive exhibition Luminous Washi Lanterns at the Japan Society for a limited number of subscribers. On June 29th, [title of show] co-creators Hunter Bell and Susan Blackwell (with accompanist Larry Pressgrove) wowed a room full of enthusiastic supporters as they performed an original musical work-in-progress from their newest collaboration. On September 21st, writers Julie Orringer (The Invisible Bridge, How to Breathe Underwater) and Ryan Harty (Bring Me Your Saddest Arizona) will read from their work. A special “pop-up” event will be scheduled for later in the year.

Boston
MacDowell’s second season of its Boston Mac ’n’ Cheese series kicked off on May 11th with writers and brothers Joe and John Fox. Composer and jazz pianist Bert Seager will perform and discuss his work on Wednesday, October 12th.

Events in both locations begin at 6:30 p.m. Subscriptions are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Because of the special nature of these events, there are no refunds or cancellations.
