April, 2004
For April's MacDowell Downtown, The Colony presents a unique opportunity
to engage firsthand with international artists in a moderated talk.
“Creativity Without Borders: Internationalism in the Arts” will probe
the questions surrounding the role the arts play in an increasingly
global world and will feature a panel of five MacDowell artists from
the Philippines, Cameroon, Albania, China, and Israel. Peterborough
resident and MacDowell board member David Baum will moderate. These
artists - three writers and two composers - will address the debate
on whether globalism increases our awareness of culture or serves
to marginalize it, what multiculturalism means in the arts, and what
kind of voice the artist has in the shaping of a borderless planet.
The roundtable format will open the channels for Peterborough residents
to share their international and artistic experiences and ask questions
of the panel. MacDowell Downtown begins at 7:30 p.m. on April 1st
in Bass Hall at the Peterborough Historical Society. Free refreshments
are provided.
