Opening the MacDowell Archive at the Library of Congress In February, 2007, the Library of Congress will mount a special exhibition on The MacDowell Colony as part of its American Treasures series. The exhibition on MacDowell will include fine prints, holograph music scores, first editions, photographs, and historical documents from the Colony’s archives that chronicle the development of The MacDowell Colony and its influence on the arts in America. Works by distinguished MacDowell Colony artists from the Library’s rich and diverse collections will also be highlighted. In addition to the exhibition, which will run through August 18th, other events to commemorate the MacDowell Centennial are in development and include poetry readings, author talks, film screenings, and several concerts. These include: Women Composers from The MacDowell Colony, featuring the work of Fellows Gena Brancombe, Elizabeth Brown, and Louise Talma, Saturday, March 10th, Library of Congress, Washington, D.C., and Sunday March 11th at the University of Maryland. American Chamber Players featuring Colony Fellow Ellen Taafe Zwillich Friday, May 4th, 8 p.m. Colony Fellow Fred Hersch, October 26th On November 9, members of The Choral Arts Society, led by Maestro Norman Scribner, will perform works by MacDowell artists in a concert in the Coolidge Auditorium at the Library of Congress.
