SPECIAL EVENTS
The Cambridge Madrigal Singers presented a concert to benefit The MacDowell Colony in the Lindsey Chapel of Emmanuel Church in Boston, MA, on May 15, 2004. Directed by two-time Colony Fellow Raymond E. Fahrner, the Madrigal Singers performed works by Edward MacDowell and Colony Fellows Amy Beach, Leonard Bernstein, Elliott Borishansky, Roy Harris, Meredith Monk, Alice Parker, Ned Rorem, Louise Talma, and Ernst Toch during a concert entitled, A Sacred Ground: A Tribute to The MacDowell Colony and Its Composers.
Formed in 1981, the ensemble is a chamber choir
of about 30 voices that performs a cappella and accompanied works from
all musical periods. A reception for audience members and perfrmers followed in the church's library.
The MacDowell Colony has held a spring event in Boston for six
years. These events highlight the creation of new works of art by the more
than 400 Boston-area artists who have enjoyed residencies at MacDowell
during the past 97 years.
